National Parks Conservation Association
The National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing America's National Park System for both current and future generations. With a mission to be the voice of America's national parks, NPCA engages in advocacy, legal action, and community involvement to preserve these iconic natural and cultural resources. The organization works on a wide range of issues including climate change, wildlife protection, and park funding, aiming to ensure that national parks remain well-protected and accessible. Through its efforts, NPCA strives to connect people to the rich history, culture, and natural beauty of these treasured sites.
Our Project
As a long-term client, we partnered with the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) over a two-year period to gain more experience with the nonprofit consulting sector. In the first project, the objective was to reduce wildlife-vehicle collisions in national parks. The project focused on risk assessment, wildlife collision research, and the suggestions of preventative measures through wildlife collision fact sheets. This resulted in a significant increase in public understanding of collision rates and threats to wildlife, improving both wildlife conservation efforts, visitor safety, and overall conservation legislation in DC. Positive feedback and guidance was received, and recommendations were made for ongoing monitoring and further expansion of these initiatives to other high-risk areas of the National Parks.
In another project, the primary objective was to address the growing threats posed by data centers to national parks, carried out over the period. The project focused on environmental impact assessments and advocacy strategies, involving activities such as data analysis, stakeholder consultations, and public awareness campaigns. As a result, the project led to a stronger regulatory framework, helping to mitigate noise pollution and the overall environmental footprint of data centers near protected areas. As our work continued with the NPCA, our expertise in environmental advocacy grew tremendously.
