Environment America
Environment America is a national environmental preservation organization working on policy-making and citizen awareness. Environment America is active in 30 states, working on national, state, and corporate levels. Members of Environment America work together for clean air, clean water, clean energy, wildlife and open spaces, and a livable climate. Through research, public education, advocacy, litigation and action, Environment America advance policies and practices that put our country and our world on a better path.
Our Project
GEC supports the marine protection team at Environment America by researching the market structure of the New England lobster and Jonah crab industries to identify key players who could influence the widespread adoption of ropeless gear. By conducting desktop research on state-level policies related to catch limits, species life cycles, and major corporate stakeholders, GEC helps Environment America identify corporations with vague sustainability standards. Furthermore, GEC assists Environment America in analyzing corporate ownership and interests within the Alaska pollock fishery. By identifying commercial fishermen with significant catch loads and ownership of catcher vessels, GEC compiled a comprehensive list of industry players to inform future advocacy and litigation efforts.
